Each year, Zara-V Music Studio hosts two Winter and Spring student recitals, open to the public and free of charge.
Sonata-Sonatina Festival
DATE AND LOCATION: TBD at Harper College
The Sonata-Sonatina Festival takes place at Harper College each November. Students perform one or two movements of a sonata or sonatina, depending upon the level of the piece. All students receive a ribbon, and high scores also receive a bronze, silver, or gold medal. Students who receive a gold medal are eligible to participate in a Gold Medal Recital the following weekend.

Replacing the Awards Competition, the Midwest Keyboard Performers Challenge offers a new approach to motivating and encouraging budding pianists. Instead of traditional judging, students perform in small recitals (15-25 minutes), each with a theme or category. They present, interact with peers and judges, and earn points based on piece level and performance quality. Students can enter multiple categories, accumulating points to exchange for a trophy.
State Olympic Competition in Music
DATE AND LOCATION: TBD at Wheaton College
Illinois Music Association (IMA) State Olympic Contest is an annual regional music competition for instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages and experience levels, featuring classical, jazz, and pop categories evaluated by judges on accuracy, memory, and expression.
